  • Welcome to the Munkapedia community review series in which you are the critic! This review thread is for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The series seeks to focus on your thoughts about the soundtrack itself so avoid going too much into the song details (ie. lyrics) here.

This thread is open to any reviews, comments, criticisms, improvements, goofs, etc directed towards any aspect of the soundtrack. Could a song have been covered better, was the artwork not to your satisfaction, or was the soundtrack too small/contained too many non-Chipmunk songs? Discuss these questions and more!

    • Juicy Wiggle (Munk Remix) - I didn't like this one. I don't think much of Redfoo either. His style of "music" does not meld with the Chipmunks.

Conga - I enjoyed this one. I was clapping along with it and had a smile on my face all the way through. Despite the fact it is sort of recycled from Chipwrecked.

Oh My Love - A great song and is very catchy. One of my favorite pieces of music of all time.

South Side - Not much to say... just a good song.

Iko Iko - Another good one. Very catchy and it's now stuck in my head.

Uptown Funk - I love this to bits. A mass improvement over the original version in terms of sound.

Geronimo - Being an Australian I am very pleased an Aussie song got into one of these movies. I love the song, it makes me feel happy.

Turn Down for What - This song is garbage, it's not intreasting, it not catchy, it's just a series of different sounds. This is not music.

Home - This one is freaking EPIC! I am disappointed that the Chipettes only get one song, but it could have been worse. They could have not been in the film at all like originally assumed.

Do you think it's possible that Home was written by Ross and Janice?

    • I'm not going to even review "Oh My Love" and "Geronimo" because, honestly, they shouldn't even be there in their current form. Removing these two, the soundtrack is very short for a feature film (I'm guessing that means more time will be spent on plot, which is okay I guess).

This seems to be a strange soundtrack to me. "Iko Iko" - I just don't know what to say about it, not for me. The big hits, "Juicy Wiggle" and "Uptown Funk," don't jive with me much (much more so with "Juicy Wiggle"). "Turn Down For What" - whatever. I see why they include it, but tracks that repeat the same line or two over and over for most of the song annoy me (reminds me of an ALVINNN!!! song? can't remember the name, but hence my point).

"Conga," though sortof a rerelease, is different. It's the full song and it's covered by the boys this time. I still haven't yet heard it in full yet.

"South Side" and "Home" are the only ones I've bought so far, though I don't know why they removed stanzas from "South Side" (irritating after I bought it). I was greatly looking forward to "Home." The lyrics in the previous clip were (and still are) great. I heard the preview yesterday on the forum and my excitement dropped. The song could have been much better without the (random) techno at the end of the chorus.

Overall, there isn't one song I don't have problems with (well, maybe "Conga"). I'd say the worst CGI soundtrack that's been released.

Edit: I'd rank the songs as follows:

      1. "Conga"
      2. "Home"
      3. "South Side"

      4. "Uptown Funk"
      5. "Juicy Wiggle"

      6. "Turned Down For What"
      7. "Iko Iko"

Again, "Oh My Love" and "Geronimo" don't deserve to be in this discussion.

Well dang. I know it's your opinion, and all opinions deserve to be respected, but isn't that a lil' harsh? If anything, I thought both these above were awesome choices for the soundtrack. turn Down For What was one of last year's biggest hits, and I thought it was awesome. Juicy Wiggle sounded great to me too. Not understanding why you put quotes around the word music. Because it is music. Just asking, what do you mean when you say it doesn't meld with the Chipmunks?

    • Here's how I rank the songs.

      • 9. Oh My Love - Why is this on the soundtrack? (It's still a great song.)
      • 8. Geronimo - Same as Oh My Love.
      • 7. Turn Down For What - I get it's a Chipmunk song, but why is this here? I don't want the Chipmunks to follow the trend of covering the latest "hit" songs.
      • 6. Iko Iko - Eh.
      • 5. Juicy Wiggle - Good song, but not as good as the others.
      • 4. Conga - Even though it's recycled, it's still good.
      • 3. Uptown Funk - Great choice for the soundtrack.
      • 2. Home - One of the best songs on the album.
      • 1. South Side - My favorite on here. It's really catchy.

    • I'm glad "Home" didn't turn out to be a full ballad. The verses' melodies are wonderful, but considerig it seems to be the ending song of the movie, it needed spice. And it still doesn't take away how good it is. I could do with more originals. This, South Side and Uptown Funk are some of the better songs in this soudntrack. Not that there's much to talk about. It's really seven songs the Chipmunks actually sing. Conga and Iko Iko are okay. I refuse to download Juicy Wiggle and Turn Down For What. Just no. No.

I wonder if they wasted their money for Uptown Funk's rights to be covered considering that song was huge, lol. There could have been better options. I would've loved for the boys to cover Geronimo instead of...you know, having the actual song there. No offense to the original peeps, I've been having their song, it's awesome. Which is why I wished the Chipmunks covered it. I would think all three brothers get to sing (as in, more evenly than Alvin singing 99% of the song, though I understand why he does) considering the type of parts it has.

    • Hearing "Home" more, I still love it. The techno itself isn't terrible, just the stuttering of the last "home" seems to take away from the song a little bit.
