David Seville & The Chipmunks - It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas

"It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" is a classic Christmas song covered by The Chipmunks, featuring Dave Seville, in multiple Christmas albums listed below. The song is also included in the special A Chipmunk Christmas, as an abbreviated version sung by just The Chipmunks, and in the soundtrack A Chipmunk Christmas, as an extended version sung by The Chipmunks, featuring Santa Claus and Dave. A modified version, with the narration and Dave's dialogue changed, is included in the album Chipmunks Christmas.

Original Version

Dave:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

The Chipmunks:
Everywhere you go

Dave:
Take a look at the five and ten
Glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

The Chipmunks:
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight you'll see
Is the holly that will be
On your own front door

Dave:
A pair of hop-along boots
And a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben

Dolls that'll talk
And go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen

And mom and dad can hardly wait
For school to start again

Alvin:
Oh, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Oh yes, everywhere, absolutely everywhere you go
There's a tree in the grand hotel
One in the park as well
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ah yes, soon, very soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
Right here, right within your heart, yes sir

The Chipmunks & Dave:
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
Right here within your heart

Special Version

The Chipmunks:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Alvin:
Time to get up!

The Chipmunks:
Everywhere you go

Simon:
Wake up Dave!

The Chipmunks:
Take a look at the five and ten
Glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow

Theodore:
Good morning!

The Chipmunks-It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

Santa Claus:
Merry Christmas everybody!
You know, I've seen a lot of Christmases in my time, wrapped
a lot of presents, and I've squeezed down a lot of chimneys.
As you may have guessed by now, my name is Santa Claus and
I want to tell you about one of my favorite Christmases.

Alvin:
You mean the one about me and my harmonica!

Santa Claus:
Well, no.
Actually Alvin, I was thinking about Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer.

Alvin:
Don't you think everybody knows that story by now Santa?

Santa Claus:
Well, I don't-

Alvin:
It all took place at the home of David Seville and The Chipmunks.

Santa Claus:
Now wait a minute Alvin.
I was going to tell this Christmas story.
It all took place at the home of David Seville and The Chipmunks: Alvin, Simon-

Simon:
That's me.

Santa Claus:
-and Theodore.

Theodore:
And that's me, hahahahaha.

Santa Claus:
Now Simon is a very studious chipmunk, and Theodore, he's a jolly little fellow who loves to eat.
Kind of reminds me of myself.
And Alvin is-

Alvin:
Courteous, kind-

Santa Claus:
Ah, courteous, kind, ah well, you just have to see for yourself.

It was the first day-

Alvin:
Santa, don't forget about my harmonica.
Romeo had his Juliet, peanut butter had his jelly-

Theodore:
Oh brother.

Alvin:
-and I had my harmonica.

Santa Claus:
Ah, yes. That's right.
Now, let's see. Where was I?

The Chipmunks:
It was the first day-

Santa Claus:
Yes, yes, that's right.

It was the first day of Christmas vacation and the boys couldn't wait to wake David up.
He was still fast asleep and the boys decided to wake him up with a song.

The Chipmunks:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go

Alvin:
Wake up Dave!

The Chipmunks:
Take a look at the five and ten
Glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow

Theodore:
Good morning!

The Chipmunks:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see
Is the holly that will be
On your own front door

A pair of hop-along boots
And a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben

Dolls that'll talk
And go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen

Dave:
And I can't wait until you three boys are back in school again.

The Chipmunks:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
There's a tree in the grand hotel
One in the park as well
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow

Alvin:
Wake up!

The Chipmunks:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart

And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
If you'll just wake up!

Santa Claus:
After Dave woke up, he told the boys they had a recording session that morning.
Well, they were pretty unhappy about that.

Theodore:
Yeah, I'd say we were!

Alvin:
Working on Christmas vacation, it's criminal.

Theodore:
It's barbarack.

Simon:
It's barbaric Theodore.

Theodore:
Yeah, that too!

Santa Claus:
Well, anyway.
Dave let you go window shopping, didn't he?

The Chipmunks:
Yes.

Alvin:
But only for an hour.

Theodore:
And we had to be right back.

Santa Claus:
Well, anyway.
The boys raced off on their skateboard with a song in their heart.

Trivia

  • As they were singing this song in the special, they were also putting on Dave's clothes.
  • When Dave fully woke up, he found himself with a pillow and a hat on his head, shoes on his hands, and a jacket on his legs. As a result he yelled "Theodore, Simon, ALVIN!"
