Synopsis

Simon challenges Alvin to a magic duel.

Plot

Missing an audience, Brittany stops the performance of Simon's "Science is Magic" show. Alvin arrives to insult his show and proclaim he could do better, to Simon's frustration. The next day, Alvin is persuaded by Miss Croner to purchase a magic book owned by the greatest sorcerer of all time. Back home, Simon learns Alvin's showing off a magic trick and desperately tries to get Alvin's book. Simon once again seeks a street audience where he learns from Kevin that Alvin is hosting his own show. Simon crashes Alvin's first act, upset about the show and Brittany leaving him as assistant, so he challenges his brother to a magician's duel. Both brothers practice their tricks over the next week in preparation. On the day of the duel Theodore, with a drumroll, explains the rules, introduces both challengers, and calls the games open. They grow a vine, make birds appear, and levitate Alvin. Simon easily betters Alvin and is declared the winner. After the duel, Simon refuses to tell his secrets until the next morning when he learns Alvin has a line of people waiting on him to use his magic. Simon explains the entire duel, and events prior, was an elaborate plan to trick and beat Alvin as a result of Alvin's insult and his own lack of audience. Alvin doesn't believe Simon's story so he continues to urge him to do magic for the people outside much to Simon’s ire.

• Series Running Gag: Miss Croner calls someone by the wrong name - Albert instead of Alvin.
• The boy in the light blue shirt with ginger hair was revealed by Alvin to be Patrick.
• The clip of Simon appearing in a puff of smoke and the clip of Theodore drumming are included in the second series opening theme, first seen at the start of season three.
• When this episode premiered in the US, it aired with a rerun of Carts and Crafts.
• At the end of the episode, when Simon yells "Alvin!", the camera fully zooms into his mouth.
