David "Dave" Seville is one of the main characters of the series and movies. He is the Chipmunks' adoptive father, confidant, and caretaker.
Added by SJ4evrDave is the loving father of the Chipmunks despite Alvin driving him crazy in most the the 80s cartoons and the Live action movies. Like any other single parent trying to raise three kids, Dave has his patience tested on a daily basis. Dave is actually based on the creator of "Alvin and the Chipmunks", and the real creator of the entire series (Ross Bagdasarian, Sr.) whose stage name was "David Seville." Dave's rival and roommate was Ian Hawke in the live action movies. Dave's adoptive sons are Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Dave's love interest was Claire Wilson in the 2007 live action movie.
Dave plays the piano and the guitar.

Biography
David Seville, or "Dave" to his friends and the boys, has his patience tested on a daily basis.
Not only does he juggle his professional life as the songwriter for the musical trio, but he's also the Chipmunks' adoptive father and confidant. While Dave struggles to remain calm and objective, Alvin often irritates him, resulting in Dave's famous yell, "AAAALLLLVVVVIIIINNNN!!!!!!" to which Alvin often replies with a loud "OKAY!!" Dave plays piano and the guitar. Dave was the star of the first film, but in the second film he played a much smaller role. He is played by Jason Lee.

Alvin and the Chipmunks
Dave was the film's main protagonist, playing the role of the boys' caretaker, although he kept telling them that he was not their father.
Even though their first meeting went off with a bad start, they got along pretty well
However, at the end of the movie, Dave told the Chipmunks that they were a family, so it was confirmed that Dave finally sees himself as a father figure to the boys.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Dave has a small role in the film. He is put in the hospital after an accident at the Chipmunks' concert and puts the boys in school. He is rarely seen in the film, but this could possibly be due to Jason Lee's work schedule for "My Name Is Earl" at the time the movie was filmed.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
Dave has a much bigger role in Chipwrecked. Shortly after they board the cruise ship Alvin starts causing problems on the ship such as spilling tanning oil on the decks and Dave gets in trouble for it and tried to apologize for the Alvin's behavior. Dave helps the Chipmunks and Chipettes build a raft to leave the island but then Zoe kidnaps Jeanette and Dave goes to rescue her. After Dave is rescued they head to the beach with the raft and start rowing out to the open sea and are picked up by a helicopter.
